How To Make Your Photos 3D!

 Reblogged from: Crafts Unleashed

The other day, while browsing my favorite home decor store, I ran across a wall hanging that was 3D. It was created from multiple layers of the same image. I wondered if that same technique would work for my own photos.

Well, it did!

I am excited to show you how easy it is to create three dimensional photos using your own prints.

How to Make Your Photos 3D-2
Supplies needed to make your own photos 3D:
  • Craft Knife & Cutting Mat
  • Micro Scissors
  • Foam Mounting Adhesive Squares
  • Duplicate Prints of the Photos you Choose
How to make your photos 3D -1
Choose a photo that is easy to “see” the dimension- like a shot in front of a layered background. Make sure the image is easy to cut. For example, I have a group shot of my family in front of the Eiffel tower. There is no way I would want to cut out all of the intricate detail of the tower!

Photo prints are cheap! Practice on 4×6 prints before you work on enlargements- to see if the layers are going to work. I would also suggest you get an extra print, if you make a mistake.

How to make your photos 3D -2
Cut your first layer. I used micro-tip scissors on most of my cutting. On very intricate places, I used my craft knife.

How to make your photos 3D -3
Continue cutting your “layers.”

How to make your photos 3D -4
I chose three cut layers to this photo, and then the background as a fourth layer.  The final layer is not cut- all of the cut layers will be layered on top of a solid background.

How to make your photos 3D -5
When all of the layers are cut, you can begin to assemble the layers.

How to make your photos 3D -6
I began with the front layer. Add foam dimensional adhesive to the backside of the cut layer.

How to make your photos 3D -7
The foam adhesive squares comes in two sizes. The small size is great for supporting small sections of your cut layers.

How to make your photos 3D -8
Here is a tip that will save you some headache!

Leave the protective backing on all of the  foam squares except one. Position the top layer over the next cut layer. Allow the one foam adhesive square to adhere to the second layer, and then start to peel the backing off of the remaining squares. This will allow you to preposition the layer- and get it nice and straight without having a sticky mess to try to peel up.

How to make your photos 3D -9
Continue to layer your cut photos.

How to make your photos 3D -10
All finished layering!

How to make your photos 3D -11
Now your photo is ready to be used in a scrapbook, or mini-album… but how is it going to fit into a frame?

I figured that one out too.:)

Choose a frame that has an opening large enough for your photo- but with some edge around the frame.

How to make your photos 3D -12
Apply adhesive to the perimeter of the backside of your photo.

How to make your photos 3D -13
You can remove the glass inside the frame, or leave it intact. Totally up to you.

Add a couple of foam adhesive squares to the center of the inside of the frame.

How to make your photos 3D -14
Then adhere your photo down! On top of the frame. This will allow the wonderful 3D layers to shine, without getting squished down by glass, or the interior lip of the frame.

How to make your photos 3D -15
It is a little hard to show how cool the 3D effect is on these photos!

How to make your photos 3D -16
Just trust me- it’s cool, and worth the effort of the fussy cutting.

Awesome for vacation photos.

How to make your photos 3D -22
Great for action shots! Check out the skateboard popping out of the frame!

And pretty spectacular for everyday shots, too.

How to Make Your Photos 3D
A pretty cool way to make a custom, personalized WOW! factor in your home or office decor.

Make a Wish Bottle Necklace

Reblogged from: Crafts Unleashed

I am so happy it is finally summer! I have so many happy memories of summer. Running through sprinklers- and then warming up on the hot cement sidewalks. The delicate balance of eating Popsicles before they melt, but without getting a “brain freeze.”  And of course, making a secret, heartfelt wish, and then blowing dandelion fluff to make it come true.

Wish Bottle Necklace i
No one has figured out a way to bottle the carefree days of summer, but I have figured out how to bottle dandelion wishes!

Wish bottle necklace 2- Crafts Unleashed
You only need a few (very inexpensive) supplies to make your own wish bottle necklace:
  • Ball Link Chain (I used silver, 18″)
  • “Wish” Silver Charm
  • Bottle Charm (cork top) or
  • Bottle Charm (rubber stopper)
  • Jump Rings
  • A nice and lucky looking Dandelion
  • Envelope or plastic baggie for gathering the dandelion

Wish Bottle Necklace a

The first thing you will want to do is find a good dandelion. :) I enlisted the help of my daughter.  This time of year, it is not so hard to find quite a lot of fine looking specimens if your yard looks like mine.

Wish Bottle Necklace c

Collect your dandelion in an envelope or baggie. It will not make it back to the house if you just pick it and run. Just saying.

Wish Bottle Necklace d

Select your bottle charm. I liked both the cork topped kind and the rubber stopper kind. Seriously, how adorable are these? Remove the top of the bottle you choose.

Wish Bottle Necklace e
Then, insert the individual dandelion fluffs. I found it helpful to use a skewer to get them distributed evenly in the bottle.

Re-insert the bottle topper. If you are concerned with the topper falling out of the bottle, you could apply a thin layer of glue to the topper before you re-insert it.

Wish Bottle Necklace f
Then, using jump rings, attach your “wish” charm to the bottle stopper, and attach the bottle to the ball link chain.

Wish Bottle Necklace g

That’s it! I think this would make an adorable and unique gift- for under a couple bucks.

And also very handy for those winter months, when dandelions are in short supply, but you really need to make a wish!

Cat DIY Mug

Porcelain-Painting-Schluffi-12

The first challenge: a pretty motive find which does not look too much according to the Crazy Cat lady, but also betrays not at first sight that is necessary even for the drawing of easy and plain lines and curves just, nevertheless, more than the will to the creation. So: mark, erase out, paper crumple up, begin at the beginning. And always trust that sooner or later the kitten looks as it has to go, the proportions completely in order are and own assurance starts to grow again.

I have decided on a simple cat who stands on the head on the cup, a cat's comment for the back and the plate also shows that he belongs to it, namely with a small black spider in the edge of the plate for whom the cat with her little paw fishes if cup and plate stand only in the right position together.

You need this

  • Cup
  • Porcelain painter
  • soft pencil

That is how it works

Everybody starts sometimes small: Contours mark

And now there comes the part which gives pleasure: First I mark the motive with a soft pencil on the cup.

I have drawn the contours intentionally a little more generously, so that I did not have to attach the porcelain marker on the graphite layer. Since then it can happen that the marker color becomes firm not substantially.

Eyes on, air stop: the time of the porcelain marker has come

Now there comes the biggest challenge: Carefully and with stopped air, but as far as possible in a river I drag the contours with the marker within the pencil default. I wipe them with a humid culinary paper where I would have to sign. This was, for example, with eyes and little walrus mustaches of the cat the case.

It is important that you do not set down the pencil as far as possible, because at these places easily there originates the color thickening which demonstrates the motive a little worried.

I was surprised myself how quickly and and easily my contemptible white common cup changed to a unique gift idea. Then another three days allow to dry and ready.

DIY Patterned Hair Clips

I am torn about whether this post should be a Pinned/Tried/Loved It, or just a DIY, because it was completely inspired by this pin I saw on Pinterest. I was fully prepared to buy those darling hair clips, until I clicked on through to the store selling them and saw that they were 2 for $20. I mean, they are adorbs, but $10 each? I don't have that kind of cash to spend on hair accessories. So naturally, as it goes with most of these DIY projects, I decided to make some of my own. Here's how it went down.

What you need:
Mod Podge // already had (but costs about $5 with coupon at Hobby Lobby)

Sponge brush // already had (But costs about $1 for a pack of brushes)
Hair clips // $2 or less

Pieces of patterned paper (free if you print them yourself)

----------
Total: $2 (give or take, but the point is... it didn't cost much)

What you do:
You can probably guess what the steps are here, but I will still tell you. But before I do, you should know it takes about 1 minute to make each barrette, so make sure you have that kind of time. Oh wait... who doesn't have one spare minute to make a seriously cute hair clip?! And these clips are a total dream for keeping bangs out of your face during the hot summer. Need I say more?

Steps:
1. Measure you patterned paper to the size of your clip
2. Put some Mod Podge on the top of the clip
3. Put the paper on, let dry
4. Put Mod Podge over the paper, let dry
5. Put the clip in your hair and look cute

So fun! Make these, and don't forget to share if you do!
